UNDER THE MANGO TREE -By William Warigon

A goddess found us story a-telling

Under the mango tree. She regaling

Of a past glory,a tall story

Of some sweet and gory

We gave her such attention as rapt as can be

She was an enchantress under the mango tree

She said she was the bell of yesterday’s ball

Her entrance ne’er failed to hush the hall

Her exit always elicited raw ovation

Her Admirers defied racial coloration

Such talent she wore like a crown

Her charms no cheer could drown

Such niche she carved

Her fame none rivaled

For today is young yesterday’s nemesis

Her golden mirror shattered to pieces

She wondered where the time had gone

For it seems such time as less she’d done
